Submerged Series: Sunflower in Decline

Artist statement: The Submerged Series is underwater floral photography. I pose my flowers in an aquarium and inject paint and ink in the water to swirl around the flowers. As the paint drifts down, when it looks interesting, then I begin to shoot. There is usually a one to two minute window before the water gets too murky. This makes for a quick, tense, energetic shooting session. The Submerged Valentine group was taken one right after the other. The swirling colors became more intense with a little time. This led to the titles of Romance, Love, and Passion. I like to experiment with different flowers and color combinations. The images also depend on the consistency of the paint, where it is injected in relation to the flowers and the strength of the injection. I also do flower portraits. My work has been exhibited all over the US and in 8 international competitions.
